All cuban towns have discos where they prefer popular forms of music over their traditional music. Ask around, you won't find any difficulty in locating these places. Looking for someone to dance with can be a problem as the police often mistake this as prostitute activity and arrest the girls. If you are female, they don't usually bother the cuban guys. Thanks for the response. Yeah, I'm specifically looking for salsa though reggaeton, bachata, merengue, rumba, punta, etc. This is my 2nd time going and I'm a woman, so I know the route pretty well as far as finding dance partners.
So, as long as it's discos that actually have a pretty good amount of people and not techno, but latin music, I'm good. But is the Matanzas area worthwhile? Would you go there for a nightlife? Or is it more of a day attraction place? I went last time to the caves there, but that's it. Hi rooinus : im a solo female going to cuba shortly to dance, primarily salsa also. I was just reading your query and thought you might be able to give me advice on dancing ettiquette over there.. At least until recently, the hottest spot in town was LA Salsa, a disco that plays great music, entrance was 1CUP last time I was there.
It hosts a great crowd,; Matanzas is a student city anyway, so even on weekdays you are bound to find good nightlife. There is another disco place that closes somewhat later These two are just about where mainstream youth go; no jineteras really. Men in Cuba are less aggressive than say in Italy, Greece or Turkey. Just say "no, gracias" and it should be fine, although they can be a bit persistent, but not off the wall. Matanzas sees very few tourists and it's one of those cities that don't have too much to show but much to give in terms of personal attachment.
Matanzas has a number of clubs. One of the lower life places I visited was called Las Ruinas. Mostly reggaeton. There's also a large open-air space next to the bay where lots of people congregate and dance.
